James Fenimore Cooper captivated early American readers with thrilling stories about their historical past. In Last of the Mohicans, published in 1826, Cooper wove a saga of war in the wilderness that cast Lake George as “Horicon.” Supposedly inspired by a visit to Glens Falls, Cooper brought his drama to its climax in a cave under the waterfall. “Cooper’s Cave” as fascinated visitors ever since.
