There are four launch sites near Downtown Plattsburgh. These sites are within walking distance of several points of interest as Plattsburgh offers flourishing arts, museums, historic districts, shopping, dining and recreational opportunities. Plattsburgh is a vibrant city, known for its extraordinary location at the confluence of the Saranac River with beautiful Lake Champlain. You are invited to explore the outstanding natural features, plentiful recreational opportunities, thriving cultural attractions and the historic legacy of the Lake City.

A breakwater protects the Plattsburgh waterfront. Anchoring north of the breakwater gives protection from the south with some protection from the north.

Wilcox Dock

Located off Cumberland Avenue on the North Side of Plattsburgh, this dock has a concrete ramp and ample parking. Port-a-johns are available in summer. In the winter, ice fishermen and ice boaters will use the facility.

Plattsburgh NYS Boat Launch

This hard surface ramp boat launch is located off Dock Street in Plattsburgh. This launch has parking to accommodate approximately 31 cars and trailer, 12 cars, and 3 accessible.  Very shallow water access. Port-a-johns are available in the summer. Well protected from a South wind, it is a good launching place for shallow draft boats, and in the winter for ice boats. Care must be taken since it is close to the Saranac River outlet, and the resulting thin ice areas.

Plattsburgh City Marina

Located on 2 Dock Street in Plattsburgh, this brand new marina has 34 slips and 25 moorings. The marina offers water and electricity, pump-out, restrooms, showers, laundry, WiFi, and a picnic area. (~2 miles to Crab Island) The inlet on the North side of the Marina is an excellent place to launch personal water crafts (PWCs) and ice boats in the winter. Food is available at the nearby Naked Turtle Restaurant with additional dining and shopping available within a short walk to downtown.

Kelley notes:

This location is open to the public and has ample parking for vehicles. It also has a dedicated dock for paddle craft. It is located north of Crab and Valcour Islands making it a longer paddle to reach either Crab or Valcour Islands.

Plattsburgh Boat Basin

The Plattsburgh Boat Basin is located on 5 Dock Street in Plattsburgh. The marina is a pay to use facility with hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and season rates. Their season is from May to October. It offers gas, pump-out, showers, laundry, a marine store, towing and rescue, restaurant, engine repair and security monitors. The Naked Turtle Restaurant is beside the marina with additional dining and shopping available with a short walk to downtown. (~2 miles to Crab Island) There is a sandy beach on the south side of the property, where personal water crafts (PWCs) and small boats can be launched after getting permission from the Marina management. Due to the storage of boats in the winter, it is not conducive to launch ice boats.
