Photo Contest! Sweet Prizes!

Show Us Your Favorite Spot on the Lakes to Locks Passage Byway

7/20/2018 Update: Our Summer 2018 Contest has officially ended. Winners will be announced soon. Stay tuned!
What is the Lakes to Locks Passage Scenic Byway?

We get that question a lot. So we decided, why not run a photo contest?

The Lakes to Locks Passage Scenic Byway has just about everything a good explorer needs–great hikes, rich history, bucolic landscapes, year-round recreational opportunities, artisan crafts, farm-to-table foods, quaint hamlets, and an amazing diversity of arts and culture. The byway extends from just north of Albany to the Canada-US border at Rouses Point–as a highway AND as a waterway! The interconnected waterway runs from the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers near Waterford, through the Upper Hudson River and Champlain Canal, Lake George, and Lake Champlain. It’s also all of Washington County and the waterway towns and hamlets from Troy to Rouses Point, along US Route 4, NYS Route 9N, NYS Route 22, US Route 9, and NYS Route 9B. (You can always email us at to confirm your photo was taken in the Byway.)

You’ve got plenty of options, places, and scenes to chose from. You don’t need to be a professional. Just get out, explore, and snap a picture. (Or send one from a previous year.) We want to see the places you love–and know why you love them. Upload a photo–up to four–and tell us what makes that place special to you. We have two age categories: Kids (16 and under) and Adults. All are welcome!

We’ll post our favorites. Our guest judge, photographer Carl Heilman II, will be helping us pick the winners. We’ll also have a People’s Choice, so you can vote for your favorite too. (Online voting starts July 9.) Winners get super prizes thanks to our generous sponsors. See the list of prizes below.

Please send your photo and descriptive caption by July 2, July 7, 2018! DEADLINE EXTENDED!  Now you can include your favorite July 4th event too! Click here to read the rules, enter, and upload your image.
