Port Henry Drawboat and Trestle Site

Only a few signs remain of the railroad trestle and drawboat that were constructed here in the 1870s to help transport Moriah iron ore to furnaces in Crown Point. This precursor to the drawbridge worked by connecting two trestles with a barge. The barge could then detach and make room for boats entering and exiting Bulwagga Bay. This allowed boats of all sizes access to the bay, while still keeping the railroad connected. The trestle and drawboat were later destroyed by ice.
This bay is perfect for viewing wildlife and nature. Waterfowl and other birds are common in this area. The diversity of aquatic plants here make it look like a layered aquatic garden–from underwater clumps of pink knotweed to floating lily pads with delicate flowers.
