Cumberland Bay Battle Site

Cumberland Bay–sometimes known also as Plattsburgh Bay–is the site of the main Battle of Plattsburgh during the War of 1812. Here, on September 11, 1814, forces under Commodore McDonough repulsed the last British invasion, after more than two hours of fighting, resulting in 100 deaths and almost 200 wounded. This site was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960. Related Sites Or Experiences
