The Sheldon Mansion, A Historic Inn, Bed and Breakfast

Savor a bygone era at The Sheldon Mansion, An Historic Inn, Bed and Breakfast which was constructed of rare red slate in 1906 on a 10-acre village estate setting. This historic mansion was the home of Slate Baron Frederick C. Sheldon, the President of the National Slate Association. It is believed to be the only building in the world to have ever been built with red slate stone walls (up to two feet thick). Reputedly designed by famous architect Stanford White, the 34-room mansion has been restored to its original grandeur to accommodate guests in large beautifully appointed rooms with private full baths.

Guests enjoy much more than just a room. They can mingle in the elegant Formal Parlor or the inviting Sitting Room, enjoy picturesque views in the Solarium or relax on the sweeping Veranda. The Formal Dining Room serves as fine dining or as a splendid conference room. The English Study was Mr. Sheldon’s favorite retreat and provides a quiet sanctuary.
