Seagle Music Colony
Seagle Music Colony is the premier opera and musical theatre producing organization in the Adirondack region of upstate New York. A dual-mission organization, SMC is also the oldest and one of the most distinguished summer vocal training programs in the U.S. Each summer, SMC selects 32 of the most talented young vocalists from across the country, via a rigorous audition and application process, to participate in its 9-week residential program. As part of their training by a professional staff, they produce six fully realized productions of opera and musical theatre to a regional ticket-buying audience from late June to mid-August each summer. Primary performances take place in the 175-seat Oscar Seagle Memorial Theatre, named after the founder of the organization. Oscar Seagle was a renowned singer and teacher who founded the Colony in 1915. It has been in continuously operating since that time, stewarded by Oscar’s son John Seagle and the Seagle family for much of its history. Now managed by a professional administration and overseen by an active Board of Directors, SMC has experienced tremendous growth in the past two decades. At least two performances each summer season also tour to audiences across the region. Some touring locations include Lake Placid, Ticonderoga, Bolton Landing, Glens Falls, and Blue Mountain Lake. Capacity And Seating Type (Stadium, Folding Chair, Balcony)
SMC’s primary performance space, the Oscar Seagle Memorial Theatre, has 175 fixed theatre-style seats. SMC also performs in the Schroon Lake Boathouse Theatre on the shores of Schroon Lake with a capacity of 180 in folding chairs, and the Schroon Lake Central School auditorium with a capacity of 350 fixed theatre-style seats.

Operas are sung in the original languages with projected English supertitles and accompanied by two pianos. A children’s opera and small musical revue or musical theatre production are also presented in alternate venues and on tour across the region. Additional regular events include a season-opening concert, fundraising gala and regularly scheduled concerts of sacred choral and solo vocal music.
