AMy’s Park

Named in memory of Amy Wolgin Wiener, Amy’s Park is a beautiful property of ponds, marshes and forests in the uplands of Bolton Landing located between Padanarum and Trout Falls Roads. The Park also includes a portion lying to the west of Trout Falls Road. It was purchased on February 29, 2012 and its hiking trails were officially opened to the public with an inaugural guided hike on Friday, July 13th following the LGLC annual meeting.

The Bolton property includes the headwaters for Indian Brook and contains important wildlife habitat within its large, unfragmented forest and wetland complexes. Protecting this fragile property prevents excess nutrients and sediments that are inevitably generated by development from flowing into Indian Brook and Northwest Bay.

LGLC purchased the property for $500,000 from a conservation buyer, who held the land until LGLC was able to finalize the purchase. Funding for the deal is provided through two grants: a State Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) grant from the New York Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, which was awarded to LGLC in 2007 for this acquisition, and a Federal North American Wetlands Conservation Act grant. Amy’s Park has four trails for hiking, one short portage trail for water access to the southern pond, and one longer portage trail for access to the northern pond. The yellow, orange and blue hiking trails start at the main parking area on Padanarum Road; the red trail and the boat launches start from Trout Falls Road. In total there are 5.5 miles of trails with easy to moderate lower trails with active beaver ponds and wetlands, and challenging upper trails. Site includes hiking, boating, xc-skiing, snowshoeing, and hunting.

To hike from the Padanarum Road parking area, follow the orange trail a short distance to a junction with the yellow trail. The orange trail turns right, while the yellow trail continues straight. Both trails are easy with a relatively flat tread. The orange trail will lead you on a 1.0-mile path with a loop at the end that winds around some rocky ledges to two viewing sites overlooking the northern end of the beaver pond. The yellow trail does not loop; it leads to a lovely, lichen covered rocky outcrop at the water’s edge (0.5 m) and continues across a bridge below the beaver dam for 0.5 miles to Trout Falls Road.

The blue trail follows a logging road from the northeast corner of the park to the 0.5-mile mark on the orange trail. It is relatively flat and wide and is good for cross-country skiing.

For more of a challenge, the red trail climbs steadily for 0.75 miles to a lookout point, with great views of Lake George. It can also be accessed from a section of the yellow trail via a steep climb from Trout Falls Road.

Highlights And Key Points Along The Route
Boat Launch

To launch your canoe or kayak on the south pond, proceed from the intersection of Padanarum and Trout Falls Roads north on Trout Falls Road for 0.8 miles until you see a sign for the boat launch on the right hand side. From here there is a short portage to the water. To launch your boat on the north pond, continue on Trout Falls Road for 0.1 miles to the parking area. The red trail follows the brook downstream for a short distance before crossing it and heading back to the old logging road. Proceed for 0.65 miles to a sign pointing to the launch area. This is also a nice, easy hike with a great view of the north pond.

The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) is a not-for-profit land trust that works solely within the Lake George watershed in the southeastern corner of New York’s Adirondack Park.

Amy’s Park is open year-round, dawn to dusk. (Note: Trout Falls parking area is not plowed in winter).

No removal of plants or animals without permission. LGLC allows hunting at Amy’s Park by permit only. Please call 518-644-9673 or email Warren Rosenthal for information. Please use caution when hiking during hunting seasons – wear bright colors and hike in groups. Hunters – please be aware of hikers and hunt away from trails.

No camping, littering or fires.

Motorized or non-motorized recreational vehicles are NOT allowed.

Leashed dogs are permitted. Please clean up after your dog.
