Lachine Canal’s Path
The Lachine Canal’s path is located in the heart of the bicycle network in the South-West sector of Montreal and was ranked third most beautiful urban circuit in the world by Time Magazine in 2009. This very popular path follows the canal for 14.5 km, from the Bonaventure Expressway west of the Old Port to the Chemin du Musée in Lachine.
The canal’s path opened in 1977 and it is the oldest of such paths in the Montreal area. Certain areas of the path are part of the former tow path that was used to haul boats by horse through the canal before the arrival of steamboats. Distance And Terrain
Whether on foot or on a bicycle, the path represents an accessible route for all. It is shared by cyclists, in-line skaters and walkers and the maximum speed limit is 20 km/h.
