Lamplight Inn Bed and Breakfast

The Lamplight Inn Bed and Breakfast entails 3 separate buildings. The original, grand 1890 Victorian, the Carriage House and the Brookside House. Each has its own personality. A beautiful mix of old fashion charm and modern amenities. The 1890 building with its back to back wood burning fireplaces is the center for gathering. The spacious great room is the perfect place to relax, play games, especially Scrabble and work on the current jigsaw puzzle. The wraparound porch is a favorite gathering spot to visit with old and new friends, enjoy a glass of wine and watch the world go by. The spacious and bright sun porch dining room has a view of the lawns and mountain in the distance and greets our guests each morning with a memorable breakfast. Lodging Style And Amenities

Additional Notes
A Brief History
The Inn was built in 1890 as the summer home of wealthy bachelor Howard Conkling. Howard Conkling was a lawyer from New York City, and a member of the NY State Assembly. He was well traveled and wrote books about his travel. No expense was spared for his home. A 12′ beamed ceiling, chestnut wainscoting and fabulous keyhole staircase enhances the spacious great room, now used as the guest sitting area.
In 1926, Howard Ketchum purchased the home also for use as a summer residence. The Ketchum family owned a factory in Lake Luzerne which made tags for the ears of cattle. The Ketchum Manufacturing Company still exists. They enjoyed the summers in Lake Luzerne along with their 2 daughters until the 1980’s.
Purchased in 1984 from the Ketchum Estate, the summer home was restored by Gene and Linda Merlino. Gene and Linda were both in the Textile business. Gene managed a Textile Engraving plant, and Linda was a textile artist with a background in fashion illustration and watercolor. Purchasing the vacant estate in August 1984 and then getting married in October 1984 to start a new chapter.

What a beautiful Inn!! I live nearby so I’ve never had occassion to stay over, but I’ve toured all the rooms. They’re all different, but each has its own Victorian charm. Linda and Gene are wonderful and gracious hosts.
