Friends of Lyon Mountain Mining and Railroad Museum

The Mining and Railroad Museum in Lyon Mountain is housed in the old D&H Railroad Station (built in 1903 and renovated from 2000 to 2006). The museum displays historic pictures and artifacts of the mining industry, the railroad and surrounding areas. Lyon Mountain is approximately 27 miles from both Plattsburgh and Malone on Rt. 374. Season and Hours Open
We are open 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays from June to mid October.
Don’t Miss This When Visiting
Don’t miss the diorama of the workings of the mines above and below ground created by Bill Kissam and Jim Davis, or the model of a raise (a vertical tunnel), the videos of living miners discussing their job and accidents they were part of or witness to, the many historical pictures, the Memory Board with all the names of known miners killed in the line of work, the running train in the railroad room-as well as all the tools displayed in that room. Also of great interest this year is the Chazy Lake and Chateaugay Lake History exhibits.
