Ligonier Point

Ligonier Point, the site of Clark Quarry, is a Historic Landing. Massive amounts of stone left this dock for building most of the lighthouses on Lake Champlain, several Champlain Canal locks, foundation stone for the New York State capitol building in Albany, and piers of the Brooklyn Bridge—to just name a few. This site was also used as a commercial dock, serving the Willsboro Point farm community. Steamboat companies rented the Clark’s picnic grounds for church outings, weddings, and summer picnic cruises. The Comet and the local party boat, the steamboat Chateaugay, once ran ferry services, tours, and Sunday parties to neighboring towns from the large Ligonier Point dock.
