Plattsburgh Idea Exhibit at Plattsburgh City Court
Plattsburg was a military post beginning in the early 1800’s. By 1915, a nation-wide movement of civilian military training known as The Plattsburg Idea had taken hold. Plattsburgh City Court is now on this historically significant site, in a barracks built in 1896, on the US Oval. Thanks to the support of the New York State Unified Court System, the lobby of City Court contains a permanent exhibit on the Businessmen’s Training Camps held at the Plattsburg Barracks during the summers of 1915 and 1916, then the officers’ training camps once the United States entered World War I in 1917. The exhibit includes panoramic photographs, a panel of text and images, and other photographs, including Teddy Roosevelt talking with Gen. Leonard Wood here in 1915, and President Taft at the Tercentenary of the Discovery of Lake Champlain in 1909. Don’t Miss This When Visiting
Plattsburgh, Clinton County, the western shore of Lake Champlain.
The exhibit is open during the same hours as Plattsburgh City Court is open, generally 8 AM – 4 PM Monday-Friday; closed weekends and holidays.
