Pulpit Point

This site has witnessed numerous military campaigns, both as a stopping point and even as an actual battle ground. In 1756, this was the location of a confrontation between forces led by Captain Robert Rogers, who would later go on to become a major and leader of the famous Rogers’ Rangers, and Captain Israel Putnam, against French forces. By dragging two pieces of artillery over the mountains to this location, Rogers’ Rangers were able to defeat the French.
