Port Kent Ferry Landing

This ferry shuttle cars and passengers between Port Kent, New York, and Burlington, Vermont, during the summer months.

The ferry, coming from Burlington, once went aground on Ferris Rock about a 1/4-mile offshore in the mid 1970s. Passengers were evacuated by private motor boats from Port Kent and cars were moved onto a barge. It took days to patch the hole created in the hull of the ferry before it could be pulled off the rock and towed to the Port Kent Beach for further repair before it was taken to Shelburne Shipyard in Vermont.
